Quick Biography

Daniel's parents, Melburn and Claire Jackson, were killed in an acci<span style+"font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5;">dent at the New York Museum of Art when he was eight years old, effectively leaving Daniel an orphan. His grandfather, an archaeologist named Dr. Nicholas Ballard, refused to adopt him and young Daniel was put in foster care. As a child, his parents referred to him as "Danny."</span>

Daniel eventually grew up to become an archaeologist, linguist and expert in ancient writing systems, languages and cultures. He worked under Dr. David Jordan at the University of Chicago and met Dr. Sarah Gardner. However, he was ostracized from the scientific community for his radical theories involving cross-pollination of ancient cultures and the Egyptian pyramids being landing sites for alien spaceships and far older than commonly accepted in academia.

Since his grants had all run out and he had been evicted from his apartment, Daniel was desperate for work when he met a mysterious elderly woman named Catherine Langford. She got him a job translating ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs for the United States Air Force. After translating the coverstone found near Giza in 1928, and realizing the symbols he could not translate were in fact Constellations, he determined that they represented a six point destination. After briefing Major General W. O. West, he was shown the Stargate and identified the seventh symbol. Stargate Command dialed the address and sent a MALP to determine that the planet could sustain human life, at which point Daniel convinced West that he could open the gate on the other side. He accompanied Colonel Jack O'Neill's team to Abydos, where they found a civilization of human slaves akin to Pharaonic Egyptians. After a confrontation with the pyramid-ship's aliens, which leads to the destruction of the system lord Ra, SG-1 manages to return to Earth. However, Jacskon is voluntarily stranded and lives for two years with his Abydonian wife, Sha're. When the Stargate is reactivated, Jackson is reunited with O'Neill. However, the activation attracts the attention of the System Lord Apophys, who dials the gate and abducts SG-1 and a contingent of Abydonians, including Sha're.

This forces Daniel to return to Earth to join SG-1, help face the Goa'uld threat and free Sha're, who has been abducted by Apophys and made his queen.

Following this, he spends the next 17 years involved with Stargate command, acting most of the time as the flagteam's resident anthropologist, diplomat and linguist. Sha're was eventually lost forever, and thus Daniel remained a member of SG-1, though in later years he also seemed to be involved both in training new research team via video briefing and special ops, such as the one conducted for the benefit of the Destiny expedition in 2009.

Physical Abilities

Despite being a civilian and having persistently privileged peaceful resolutions to military confrontation, after 17 years of work at Stargate Command, he became somewhat of a jack of all trades, able to operate standard military equipment like the rest of the team, along with an impressive array of alien devices. He is able to hold his own in a fist fight if necessary as well, just like any well-trained marine.

Superhuman Abilities

Being entirely de-ascended, Daniel Jackson no longer has any super-human abilities.

Unusual or Magical Possessions

No unusual possessions, aside from a personal firearm, an M9 (Beretta 92FS, 9x19mm) - standard Air Force issue. He'll have two clips with him, and then no more.

Appearance

Played by Michael Shanks. Jackson is tall (1.83 m), and his build is athletic by necessity more than it is by habit. His hair is brown, his eyes are blue, and most often hidden behind a set of wide-set glasses. In his thirties, he used to wear his hair in a scruffy bob above his ears and was lazy about his beard, though as his involvement with the military persisted over a decade, he tended to adopt closer crops and cleaner get-ups while on the job, though he always held very staunchly to his civilian status. He wanders in wearing his standard SG-1 uniform, but will probably be seen mostly wearing jeans and polos if the plothole is agreeable.

Personality

Despite being calm and the voice of reason, Daniel is by no means a pushover. He can easily fight back if provoked and has on various occasions shown that he is not someone to be underestimated as seen when he battles Replicator Carter. He also prefers to use peaceful methods in various situations which often has him clashing with the other Stargate Command members who are part of the military including Lt. General Jack O'Neill.

He also has some quirks - most notably, Daniel tends to babble quite a bit when he gets excited over his work (which is often), or when he makes a discovery. He also tends to lecture his coworkers during briefings, a testament to his academic past. More humorously, Daniel is afraid of heights and suffers from allergies in no small proportions - without antihistamines, he will be a sneeze-machine.

After Daniel was given all of the Goa'uld knowledge by Shifu in a realistic dream, his personality quickly evolves into a ruthless and cruel character and starts having hallucinations about being a Goa'uld. He constructs Anti-Goa'uld satellites and deposes the President, blowing up Moscow with the satellites. This is presumably Daniel's dark side, something of which Shifu's vivid dream made him quite aware.
